Price and Policy Changes

Method of Payment
Orders must be prepaid unless an account has been established. We accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express, personal checks, wire transfers (international orders), and electronic funds. Educational institutions and bookstores should place orders on official stationery or purchase order forms. Please provide a purchase order number. Credit should first be established with Alta. Shipping charges will be added to all invoices in addition to state taxes where applicable. Checks and money orders should be payable to Alta Book Center and must be for the exact amount (including shipping and applicable sales tax). For accounts (institutions only), billing terms are net 30 days from invoice date. Shipping charges will be added to the invoice as a separate item.
Alta can provide you with service for most orders outside the U.S.A. Please request information by fax or email; we will respond promptly. Client will be given shipping option choices upon order placement. International orders must be prepaid by wire/electronic transfer, credit card, or money order and will not be sent until approval is received for freight charges.
PLEASE NOTE: Many countries charge duties and/or fees (some fees may include brokerage fees) for incoming merchandise. Alta Book Center Publishers has no way of knowing what the specific regulations are for each country. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the client to know what the regulations are in the country in which they are living or to which they are having materials sent. Once a package is shipped, it cannot be returned because of a client’s dissatisfaction with fees or taxes charged by the receiving country and/or broker. Client agrees to pay for all merchandise s/he orders and that is sent by Alta in good faith whether or not the above mentioned fees are charged in the receiving country. If merchandise arrives damaged, the shipping company and Alta must be informed immediately.
Alta Book Center is ordinarily in a position to fulfill 100% of materials listed in its Web site. However, some items may be out of print or temporarily out of stock. If part of an order is out of stock, that portion will automatically be placed on backorder. The in-stock portion will be sent immediately, resulting in two shipments. Payment terms (prepaid or by an account) must be respected regardless of backorders. Clients who wish to receive their order complete may request for available items to be held until all backordered materials are received.
Shipping costs are based on weight. We suggest you call for exact fees. Standard shipping costs are 13% of the total order (this decreases as order quantity increases). Minimum charge is $8.50. For orders outside the U.S., please email, call, or write for an exact amount. Orders processed for shipment to a specific address which are then rerouted locally when delivery to that address is attempted will carry a minimum $11.00 rerouting charge. Note that shipping costs are care of the client in all examination orders and returns. For single items, add $8.50.
Method of Shipment
Your order will be shipped the day it is received provided we have your shipping address, method of payment, and the items in stock. Most orders to addresses in the U.S.A. are shipped via regular United Parcel Service (UPS) unless special instructions are provided by the client. Delivery time of in-stock materials is 1–6 working days, depending on the final destination. We offer alternative shipping methods for faster service. Please call for options and rates. Orders shipped to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico can be shipped Priority Mail, Second Day Air, or Next Day Air.
Alta Book Center is pleased to provide certain materials on a 30-day invoice. All examination requests must be submitted on school, institute, or company letterhead, signed by an authorized representative and accompanied by a signed copy of Alta’s examination form (available upon request or from our website). Due to packaging and copyright laws, the following material is not available for examination: audio and video material, multimedia/computer software, visuals, teacher’s manuals and editions, and test materials. Audio, video, and CD-ROM demonstration samples may be sent on a return basis when available. We regret that we can only provide this service within the United States. Libraries please contact Alta directly for special circumstances.
If you do not already have one, please request a return form (forms are printed on the back of all invoices). Alta accepts returns up to three months from the date of receipt. Returned materials must be in perfect, saleable condition—unmarked, unstamped, and without signs of shelf or other wear. Purchased sets must be returned as sets. Include Alta’s invoice number, the titles and quantity of the items involved, and a reason for the return. Alta reserves the right to refuse, at our discretion, any returns. Unacceptable return items will be refused and returned to the sender. We recommend that materials be sent via UPS—all other shipment options are used at your own risk unless you have means of tracing and providing proof of delivery. Under no circumstances can return shipments be received COD. We will not accept as return more than 20% of original orders exceeding 10 copies. The following items are not returnable: audio material, video/DVDs, CD-ROMs, visuals, photocopiable resources, teacher manuals and editions, and test materials. Electromagnetically produced materials can be exchanged for the same materials if they are defective. Shipping and handling is care of the client in both the sending and receiving of the materials and will not be included in the credit/refund.
Notification of Shortages, Damaged or Missing Items
In the case of shortages, damaged, or missing items, you must notify Alta within 30 days of receipt of the order. After 30 days, it will be assumed that the order was delivered complete and in good condition.
